Philadelphia Stories Plans Fall Spring 2014 Exhibit

This exhibition will feature art (painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and mixed media) inspired by historic women from the Delaware Valley, combined with words (poetry, prose, and fiction) that speculate about or are influenced by the lives of these women.

Examples of possible women from the Delaware Valley: Alice Neel, Agnes Irwin, Margaret Mead, Mary Cassett, Grace Kelly, Betsy Ross, Louisa May Alcott, Marian Anderson.




Proposals due date: May 24, 2013
Artist Acceptance Letters: June 21, 2013
Work Completed by: October 1, 2013
Hi Res Jpegs Due: October 1, 2013
Call for Artists: Proposals accepted via email to mtevere@hotmail.com. Proposal should include the name of the woman you will be honoring and why; one paragraph explaining how you plan to represent her and your selected medium; (It is understood that this idea is flexible and subject to development.); a one page synopsis of your professional resume; and 5 jpegs of recent work.

This exhibition is open to both accomplished and burgeoning female artists. Work will be chosen based on both quality and diversity of the medium and chosen subject.

This is the second exhibition in a series exploring the rich history of the Delaware Valley. As with the first, Forgotten Philadelphia, a book will be published in conjunction with this exhibition. To view a video about Forgotten Philadelphia, click HERE.

Work does not need to be available for sale, but it should be available for up to a year following the opening exhibition for inclusion in traveling iterations of this show.

Opening Reception: Thursday, June 27th, 6 - 8:30 pm
DUMBO 1st Thursday: July 11th, 6 - 9 pm

Last year's exhibit featured work by over 400 artists from as far away as Australia and Guyana.
