2021 CAA CONFERENCE
CAA will hold its 109th Annual Conference as a virtual program, February 10-13, 2021, as an initial part of the association’s digital transformation. Providing content in a virtual format preserves and enhances access to the program and allows conference attendance to expand beyond boundaries embracing a global audience.
This year CAA includes sessions, papers, speakers, and related programming on the topic of Climate Crisis, including but going beyond eco-art and eco-criticism, and with climate justice and intersectional thinking as priorities, which might be of special interest to our Members as WCA will not offer a conference this year but focuses on 2022, WCA’s 50th Anniversary.

The Women’s Caucus for Art strongly supports the Black Lives Matter movement and we stand with those protesting against racism with non-violent actions. We support the fight for justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Sean Reed, Tony McDade, and countless others who have been killed by the police and white vigilantes. We will say their names.
WCA is an inclusive member organization of art professionals. We support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) which is reflected on our national board, panels, curators, exhibitions and publications. Our organization is committed to the growth and exploration of art for social activism and transformation.
Join us in rededicating ourselves to knowing our racial past and creating change now to ensure a transformative future through artistic expression, engagement, and education.

I took a quick pic of Hedith painting while having a video call with her today. It is always exciting and interesting for me to see what she is working on. She is nearing completion of this beautiful piece. She mentioned she has been very focused on it for the past few weeks. Can’t wait to share the finished piece.

So many things can divide us, especially now. One of the things I cherish most is celebrating my friendship with others who share the same faith. No matter where we come from or what our experiences have been like, I know we share a love for God and all he represents.
This print was inspired by Psalm 5:11, which says:
But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
Signed, matted print available here: http://cherieburbach.com/.../let-all-who-take-refuge-in.../

Really excited to share this work that I was commissioned for! As I have a deep appreciation and interest to explore language and linguistics in my personal practice and have been teaching myself to be literate in Telugu, working on this has truly been fulfilling.
Image 1: Final commissioned piece
This piece explored typography in Telugu, in the script and as transliteration. To encompass visual beauty and to be in “bliss” and feel “happiness” I reflected that through the soft colors. Lastly, the muggu/kolam + tessellation/Alhambra art emboddied the linguistic/cultural identity and faith.
I enjoy how this piece has layers to it, as you get closer and closer, there’s more to see.
Image 2, 3, 4, 5: Other versions that I had worked on mostly exploring Telugu but still exploring geometry and repetition.
Can’t wait to get into animation! I would love to do more commissioned work, feel free to reach out to me.

Today’s #wcw is the great Natalia Fabia. Her website describes “A graduate of the Art Center College of Design, Natalia Fabia began showing her art in group exhibitions around Los Angeles in the early 2000’s.
Fabia began making colorful, sultry scenes filled with people, lush environments, ornate fashion, light, interiors, glamour, graffiti, landscapes, punk rock music and an unapologetic sexiness entirely her own.
Fabia finds a genuine comfort and truth in the realness and imperfections within her subjects. She glorifies the individuality and unique aspects of her human figures. Hers is a colorful world celebrating the vibrant diversity and beauty of the life she lives and that exists around her.
Infused with Fabia’s signature style, vividly saturated candy color palettes and a dazzling spectrum of light, her work is a combination of fantasy narratives and actual moments captured from the artist’s life.”
We love her work and style!

We are sponsoring a show at stolacontemporaryart honoring Ruth Bader Ginsburg!!
“In an already challenging time, losing Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a cultural icon, was a big blow in a difficult year. Artists around the United States are raising their visual voices to honor the “Notorious RBG”. This exhibition, Rest in Power! The Life, Legacy and Mission of RBG , documents this artistic movement in a collection of art featuring the work of 40 artists. It is an eye-catching and impactful testament of the lasting legacy of this national treasure. Enter the gallery to view an homage to an icon of women’s rights and social justice, who left behind a legacy of inspiration and greatness. The art is evidence that RBG inspired millions of people around the world through her hard work, perseverance, and courage in the face of adversity. Stola Contemporary, with generous support by the Chicago Chapter for Women’s Caucus for Art, created an exhibition that asked for work in all mediums that celebrate this amazing woman and to reflect on woman’s rights, equality, justice, inclusion, and friendships that see no political lines.” - womenscaucusforart
Gallery view is up till Feb 7th!

Beijing Journal—An Online Publication
Maureen Burns-Bowie, Director of the International Caucus’ UN Program (https://www.wcainternationalcaucus.org/) is pleased to share with Women’s Caucus for Art members a new online publication, “Beijing Journal” (https://www.beijingjournal.online/).
This year, 2020, we celebrate ten days in September 1995 as the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing, China. This event brought together 17,000 UN delegates and 30,000 representatives from civil society NGO’s (non-governmental organizations). Women worldwide went to the conference to explore the role of women in society, develop solutions with timelines, enumerate steps to reach those goals, and demand accountability.
