The Space Between: Questions of Place in Times of Uncertainty
Our communities have witnessed recent economic uncertainties, shifts in identities, and dramatic transformations in our respective environments. Concerns have centered around our inherent values in relation to our existing living spaces. In the act of inquiry, questions arise: Do we place a priority on lifestyle choices in contrast to economic advancement? Is the quality of urban living in a state of decline? Have we contemplated creating new amalgamations of place to bridge gaps between cultures or ethnicities, or even locations—be they urban, rural or suburban? Individuals embody complex connections to place or dwelling. Women and underrepresented communities have played a leading role in reflecting on this issue. Sharing our perceptions of place helps to identify our varied responses whilst illuminating our individual and collective relationships to it.
