SUMMARY:Ecotones: Water & Thresholds of Change
DESCRIPTION:We invite women artists\, from across the nation\, working in all media to explore water in its full breadth and ecotones – the thresholds where transformation occurs.  These are spaces where boundaries dissolve\, the visible and imagined intertwine\, and the familiar gives way to the unknown.  Water moves as both force and symbol\, shaping landscapes\, carrying memory\, reflecting emotion\, and tracing the fluid paths of ideas\, culture\, and collective experience. \nWhether approached through its tangible presence in the natural world or its symbolic roles in our inner and collective lives\, water offers fertile ground for reflection\, tension\, and interconnectedness.  We welcome work that explores water both as a physical presence and as a symbolic or metaphorical force. \nThe exhibition is hosted by the Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE) dedicated to nurturing creativity and community in Colorado’s mountain region.\nCenter for the Arts Evergreen is located at 31880 Rocky Village Dr.\, Evergreen\, CO 80439 \nVisit: https://www.wcaco.org/ecotones \nApplication Deadline: March 15\, 2026\nExhibition Dates: April 30 to June 6\, 2026\nEntry Fee: $35

SUMMARY:Zoom In: Who Are We?
DESCRIPTION:Video conferencing software has fundamentally changed how we work and socialize. The technology connects us to new ideas and empowers us to create across boundaries. However\, it also exposes us as isolated individuals and forces us to acknowledge the limitations of our humanity. Though experiences and opinions regarding virtual communication vary\, it is undoubtedly an integral part of modern culture that will continue to shape our lives and how we relate to one another. \nAs we face rapid technological change\, it can be easy to forget that modern challenges can be met with non-technical solutions. Technology’s lens masks the full spectrum of human possibility\, much like a background filter masks the depth of a person’s environment. How does a technical lens limit our understanding? What happens when we interrogate the 16:9 boxes we have created? If we could contact the past\, using our favorite videoconferencing software\, what could our forebears tell us about the path ahead? What can we learn from zooming in on their surroundings? \nMembers of the Women’s Caucus for Art are invited to answer these questions in a special initiative to educate the public about prominent figures within our organization. Select artists will create “Zoom style” 16:9 portraits that reflect the personalities and accomplishments of Lifetime Achievement Award honorees. Each member will be assigned a name at random and provided with WCA resources to develop a research-based portrait of their historical figure. Collected portraits will be displayed as if the subjects are participating in a video conference\, prompting viewers to reflect on how technology shapes our perceptions of time\, place\, and each other. \nClick the link for the full prospectus and description of the project. \nhttps://nationalwca.org/calls-for-art/

SUMMARY:Independence for Whom: Amplifying Voices\, Honoring Histories
DESCRIPTION:Location: Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton\, VA\nExhibition Dates: 06/20/2026 – 08/08/2026\nEntry Deadline: 01/31/2026\nOpening Reception: 7/11/2026 (6– 8pm ET) \n\n\nAs we approach the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence\, we face a challenging question: Independence for whom? Women and marginalized groups continue to fight for representation\, recognition\, and equity in every arena. Rights and freedoms that our forebears struggled to obtain are being systematically stripped away. Our stories are suppressed\, our voices are muted\, and our contributions are marginalized. \nThis milestone of American independence from colonial rule provides an opportunity to confront the legacy of inequity and reimagine independence as a shared promise. What kind of world can we create when we are all truly free? The Women’s Caucus for Art invites all women-identified artists in the United States to submit work that amplifies our narratives\, addressing themes such as: \n\nFreedom and Equity: What does independence truly mean\, and for whom?\nResilience and Resistance: Representations of struggle\, survival\, and strength.\nVoices of the Marginalized: Perspectives often overlooked in history and society.\n\nApproximately 50 works will be featured in a juried exhibition June 20 to August 8\, 2026\, at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton\, VA. This unique setting\, once a suffragist prison and now a vibrant arts space\, highlights the enduring legacy of women’s voices and the transformative power of art. An opening reception will be held July 11\, 2026\, from 6 – 8pm ET. \nWe invite you to join us in amplifying voices\, celebrating stories of independence\, and using art to inspire transformative changes. Together\, we will challenge the status quo and redefine what independence means in the 21st Century. \nVisit workhousearts.org to learn more about this historic venue and support its mission to inspire and connect people through the transformative power of art. \nDownload the PROSPECTUS \nSTART THE APPLICATION \n
